Deskripsi:

This course develops the students’ ability to become competent and strategic
readers who are able to read and comprehend popular articles and short
stories (of about 2000-word long). The class activities focus on developing
their reading strategies in identifying topics, main ideas, and supporting
details, identifying text types; distinguishing between explicit and implicit
information; interpreting culturally-bound meanings; identifying discourse
markers; analyzing word meaning, key words, juxtaposition, figures of
speech, and diction; analyzing grammatical forms; analyzing text
organization and development; as well as exploring and interpreting short
stories. In addition to developing students’ competence in reading, this
course also aims to cultivate students’ reading habits and positive attitude

towards reading through the use of varied, interesting materials and
activities. Through carefully selected materials, students are also expected to
nurture good behaviour and skills in learning individually and with other
people.
