This course is designed to enable the students to clearly see the broad divide of linguistic
approaches—context-free and context-bound—and the implications of the two approaches for linguistic
research methodology: the selection of research design, data collection, data analysis, and conclusion.

  • Identify some implications of the divide of context-free and context-bound linguistics
    characterizing linguistic research methodology

  • Find samples of context-free and context-bound linguistic research reports
  • Formulate research question(s) or purpose(s) in reference to context-free and context-bound
    linguistic research
  • Apply the concept of sampling technique(s) for linguistic data collection in reference to context-
    free and context-bound linguistic research
  • Create linguistic data bank (corpus)

  • Employ manual and digital data analytic technique(s) for the analysis of linguistic data

  • Evaluate results of linguistic data analysis
