Building on the listening skills the students have developed in the previous Listening course, this course concentrates more on enabling the students to comprehend implicit information in various types of spoken English texts. In addition to the listening skills learned in the previous course, the students are provided with the learning opportunities to develop and practice further skills of listening, i.e. recognizing cohesive devices, understanding accents, inferring meanings and relationship between ideas, and understanding stress and intonation. This course also aims to cultivate the students’ listening habits and positive attitude towards listening through the use of varied and interesting learning materials and activities. With carefully selected materials in terms of contents and activities of different interaction patterns, the students are expected to nurture good behaviour and skills in learning individually and with other people.
