This course aims at developing students‘ competences in critical studies towards the complex discourses of poetic elements’ network by analyzing how some of literature’s most contemporary issues (ideology, gender, power, class conflict) emerge and turn the poetic text into power-contestation and meaning establishment in society. The students need to master poetic concepts and theories, be competent to offer alternative solutions upon demands, and be committed to achieving personal/organizational/social goals with creative and responsible attitudes.
Capaian Pembelajaran

• Understand of the basic elements of poetry which include versification (rhyme, meter, rhythm), figurative languages (simile, metaphor, metonymy, personification), imagery, symbolism and allegory, speaker and tone, atmosphere, and theme
• Understand the complex structure of poetic elements and the working mechanism of the elements
• Analyze the meaning represented in poems through the form and/or the language
• Evaluate meaning and values inherent in poetic works with real life
• Develop further critical analysis of the intrinsic elements expanded to broader perspectives of extrinsic criticisms
• Produce essay containing critical analysis of poetic works
